Why we love Erie: The game that made the world love video games
When the Erie games company was founded, the company was looking for a way to make the games we love.
They had no idea what the market would demand.
In 2014, Erie was born.
“We had no ideas, really,” Erie’s co-founder and CEO, Mike O’Reilly, told me.
“We thought we were going to create the next big thing.”
Erie has become the go-to platform for people to get the games they love, and it’s a huge success.
But its origins lie in a small, niche niche.
“I have no idea how many people have actually been on the internet, or have heard about it, about this company, the games industry, Erichs,” O’Reillys brother-in-law, Sean, said.
“But it’s kind of a small thing.”
The Erie family’s origins are a bit more obscure, but they’ve made a name for themselves in the video game world.
In 1987, O’ Reilly and Oleg Erich founded a video game company called Erich Studios.
The Erich brand was so popular that the company became one of the top 20 companies in the world in a few years.
“It was one of those times that there were a lot of new technologies and a lot more money coming in,” Ollie Erich, Eric’s son, said of the late 1990s.
“And the company’s revenue was really booming.”
The company’s success was the start of a new era in video games.
The company made games that took gamers out of their comfort zones and put them in the real world.
“Erich is the most important game studio that has ever existed in the history of gaming,” Sean Erich told me in an interview.
“The games that were made were so good, it was like they were born out of the same universe.”
Sean Erich was a big believer in the idea of games as interactive experiences, and that included making them accessible to kids.
His brother Oleg took that philosophy to an even bigger level.
In 1993, Oleg and Oli Erich created the Erich Studio, an interactive software studio based in San Francisco that specialized in making games for children.
“If you were going into an interactive environment, you were always going to have the option to choose whether to go there or not,” Oleg O’Brien told me recently.
“That was what Erich had done.”
In other words, the kids loved the Eric games.
“If you went into an Erich game and you were really good, and you didn’t have a problem playing it, then that was a good experience for kids,” Sean O’Connor said.
Oleg Erick and Oluis Erich worked on Erie as well.
They both came from the gaming world and loved the games.
Oli Erick started Erie Studios in 1993 and went on to work on other Erich titles, including a hit for Atari called Super Adventure Zone.
“I was really a kid when Erich came out, and I’m really glad that Erich got off the ground and that it became a real company,” Oli said.
“And I think that was probably the most fun part of the whole thing, was that we had people who were like, ‘Yeah, we’re going to make games for kids,’ and then we actually were able to do it.
And we actually had people like the original Erich who were really supportive of us, and then people like Oleg who really were supportive of Erich and what we were trying to do.””
I think that’s the best compliment I can give,” Sean said.
The best thing about being in a video games company is, you never have to work at a job.
You never have any pressure.
You just go out and have fun.
